Theodora Children’s Charity was founded by Swiss brothers André and Jan Poulie in memory of their mother Théodora in 1994.

As a child, André was in hospital for several months following an accident. His mother’s visits transformed his painful experience into positive memories with the games, songs, and stories she brought to his bedside. The joy they shared during those difficult times stayed with André many years later and this gave the two brothers the idea to create a charity in her name that could bring joy and laughter to children and families at a time when they needed it most.

Our first hospital visited by the Giggle Doctors was Great Ormond Street, in April 1994. Over the last 29 years we have continued to create magical moments for thousands of children across the country receiving medical treatment through our bedside and Virtual Visits.

A Giggle Doctor visit isn’t just about one moment, it can have a significant and lasting impact on a child’s well-being and perception of being in hospital, and can help to reduce stress and anxiety during their stay.
